Night at the (Los Angeles County) Museum (of Art)

Good news art lovers! The Los Angeles County Museum of Art is free every day (closed on Wednesday) after 5 PM as part of their "Pay What You Wish Program." Check the website for hours and details, but the museum stays open until at least 8 PM each evening, giving you plenty of time to peruse their collection. You must get a ticket from the kiosk before wandering around the museum.

Also, on the second Tuesday of each month, general admission to the permanent galleries and non-ticketed exhibitions is free to all. This means today people!

Parking is $7 in the 6th Street garage, but free after 7 PM.

And how could I forget?! LACMA also offers free Wi-Fi. Does it get much better?

Deals Down Under

Have some dough for a trip? The Practical Traveler at The NY Times suggests Australia. The American dollar is strong there and the cost of airfare is dropping.

Boho Happy Hour

The BoHo restaurant replaces Charcoal at the Arclight Hollywood Theatre Complex. Stop in Monday thru Thursday from 4 pm - 7 pm for half price draft beer and pizza. These deals are available at the bar and in the main dining room. I favor the Margherita pizza, but the Bianca is worth a try as well. Both are delicious and large enough to share with a friend.

For Those With Kids

At IHOP kids eat free on Tuesday and Thursday from 4 pm - 9 pm. For each adult entree purchased, receive a free kid's entree for those 12 and under. See your local IHOP restaurant for additional details.

Funny Face's for everyone!

GREAT SCOT!

The New Beverly Cinema is showing the BACK TO THE FUTURE Trilogy both tonight and tomorrow starting at 7:30 pm. Doc Brown himself is rumored to appear in person!

If you're not seeing UP! or DRAG ME TO HELL, lay down $10 for ol Marty McFly. It's three movies for less than the cost of one at the Arclight.

Free Cake Fridays

For those of you craving a little something sweet, Mrs. Beasley's is offering "Free Cake Fridays." Every Friday at Mrs. Beasley's locations, buy 1 bundt cake and get a second for free. This deal is only available in stores, but check out the selection and locations online.

Border Grill Happy Hour

Been craving a margarita lately?  Hit up the Border Grill in Santa Monica .  Margaritas are half price and tacos are $3 a piece.  Happy Hour runs Monday - Friday 4 pm - 7 pm, and for those of you that still have jobs, Friday and Saturday after 10 pm.

Read more about it here.

Deal is a Relative Term

The NY Times Travel section has a new article featuring recent deals they've found online. While travel is a luxury altogether, there are a few deals here that seem reasonable in this economy: roundtrip from LA to Hawaii via Pleasant Holidays for under $400 a person, and a Vegas deal offered by the Imperial Palace Hotel called "All In" that includes accomodations, food and drink for two priced at $135 a night.

I don't know about you, but all this unemployment has me itching for a real vacation.

Chain Restaurants to the Rescue

What do Chili's, TGI Fridays, and The Cheesecake Factory all have in common?

Each chain has launched their "recession-priced" menus.  Chili's is offering 10 items for under $7.  TGI Friday's is introducing $5 Sandwiches and Salads.  The Cheesecake Factory now has a "Small Plates & Snacks" menu.

So live a little and dine out.  Your wallet, if not your stomach, will thank you.

My Apologies

Things were busy  for a moment.  I now return to my previously scheduled blogging.

More Pink Slip Parties

It's May and unemployment is still rising. The good news? Pink Slip parties are still going strong, bring applicants, hiring managers and recruiters together. PINK SLIP PARTY LA (different than the parties at The Crescent) has three upcoming events - one in Van Nuys, another in San Diego, and a third in Downtown LA. Grab a friend and go mingle.
